Management Information Systems, 2025

WHY WEBER STATE

I came to Weber State to study Radiology. They have a really good program. I did that for a year, but realized that wasn’t for me. So, as many do, I came to the business school. I wanted to see what was out there.

WHY MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS AND ECONOMICS?

I am a dual major – Economics and Management Information Systems. I chose that because I took Dr. Randy Boyle’s Intro to Management Info Systems (MIS) class. He’s a pretty good sales rep. I was already an Economics major, thanks to Dr. Keinsley, but I was planning to do a Data Analytics minor. It turned out I could do the same kinds of courses in MIS, in almost the same amount of time. It all worked out.

WHAT'S NEXT

I got into the graduate program at Carnegie Mellon on scholarship, starting Fall 2025. That will be a year-and-a-half long program. My scholarship will pay for 100% tuition, which is rare. I feel pretty lucky. I’m in banking now, so I have an advantage in that field, but I’m open to other opportunities. I am interested in risk modeling in the banking industry right now, but that could change. The combination of the Economics brain and the MIS technical skills really bring it to life, and I’m excited to apply it in the workforce.

EXPERIENCE AT 91风流

I love how personal the experience at Weber State is, in general. I can stop by any professor’s office and they’ll help me. I have been a part of two research projects and have had tons of mentorship while I’ve been here, and I got lots of feedback, brainstorming, and help figuring out what to do with my life. It’s much easier when you have people there to support you.

PROFESSOR IMPACT

There are so many professors that helped me. Drs Boyle, Roberts, Koford, Keinsley…there hasn’t been a professor in Econ or MIS, or even the core classes, that hasn’t been super helpful and hasn’t given me everything I needed to succeed.

ADVICE FOR FUTURE STUDENTS

If something is hard, that’s good. You should embrace that, it means you’re learning something.
