Master of Taxation, 2025
WHY WEBER STATE
I chose Weber because it was affordable 馃槉. I started at Utah State because I had a 2-year scholarship. When that scholarship ended, I decided to transfer somewhere less expensive. Weber State was a great option. Then, when it was time to choose a graduate program, I heard about the MTax degree. I chose Weber, then I just kept choosing Weber.
WHY MTAX
I really like numbers and money, and all things finance. My husband says I’m obsessed with money - but I really do just find the way it works fascinating. I thought it would be good to learn more about it, not only for my professional life but for my personal life. A lot of people don’t know anything about taxes or finances, and it scares them. I grew up wanting to use money as a tool. It’s been an interesting subject to delve into for me.
WHAT'S NEXT
I plan to take at least two of the sections of the CPA exam by the end of the year. I want to get my CPA license and work at a smaller firm, preferably in tax. At first, I wanted to work mostly with individuals, I enjoy the variety and helping people. But as I’ve taken the business courses, business tax has become more interesting. I’m open to both.
PROFESSOR IMPACT
All of my professors made an impact, especially within the taxation program. Darcie Costello was enormously helpful because I wasn’t sure whether to go into accounting or finance as an undergrad. I took a tax class and knew that was it; this was what I wanted to do. She helped me choose my future trajectory. I also went on a study abroad, and she was one of the leaders. It was fun to get to know her outside of the classroom. I also enjoyed asking questions and learning from Drs Smith and Pace – they are both well regarded and informed in their fields, and it’s reflective on them as people.
ADVICE FOR OTHER STUDENTS
You will need to focus on the future, but try to soak up your learning now because you don’t know what you’ll need in the future. We look at things through the lens of now, but it’s good to keep an open mind because you don’t know what you’ll need later.
THE 91风流 EXPERIENCE
I really enjoyed my time at 91风流. I had a lot of appreciated educational and scholarship opportunities. I attended a forum on a trip to New York with Dr. Fan, met fellow students, and had a myriad of other great experiences. Weber State is great, great, great.
